Central Electric Power Association understands that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
Are you a high school junior and your parent(s) or legal guardian receives electric service from Central Electric Power Association? If so, we encourage you to apply to represent Central Electric Power Association in the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop and the NRECA Washington, D.C. Youth Tour.
Students will attend a leadership workshop in the spring in Jackson. At the workshop, students will study the finer aspects of leadership, enjoy a first-hand look at our state government in action, sharpen their leadership skills, and hear presentations from government leaders, local business leaders and rural electric cooperative professionals.
The Mississippi delegation will join more than 1,700 high school juniors from across the nation in Washington D.C., for the Rural Electric Youth Tour. During the week, they will learn about cooperatives, rural electrification, the city and government. The seven-day schedule is full of sight-seeing, including all of the major monuments and memorials, the Smithsonian, Museums, Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery, to name a few.
One student is selected at the workshop to represent the Mississippi Delegation on a national level. The Youth Leadership Council (YLC) member receives a $1,000.00 scholarship upon fulfillment of their duties.
All participants are sponsored by Central Electric Power Association. This includes all costs - everything from travel, lodging and meals! Central Electric Power Association is dedicated to our young people and we want to make a difference in their lives.
